acQuire offices go green with global carbon neutral rollout

Mining software company finds benefit in keeping a sustainability focus

A global technology company providing software to the world’s resources industry has taken the first step to become carbon neutral by offsetting emissions from its Perth offices. acQuire Technology Solutions has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions as an ongoing initiative. Environmental sustainability is aligned with acQuire’s core values and purpose and is a special interest of many employees on their global team.

PERTH, Western Australia (19 February 2016) – acQuire Technology Solutions has long been a company that believes in sustainability. Now acQuire has taken that commitment a step further — teaming up with an innovative organisation, Carbon Neutral, to offset the company’s greenhouse gas emissions by sponsoring the planting of thousands of native trees.

Carbon Neutral is Australia’s major reforestation offset developer and works with organisations across the country to minimise their impact on the environment by measuring and offsetting their emissions.

In calculating acQuire’s emissions, Carbon Neutral closely analysed the company’s vehicle usage, electricity bills, waste, paper consumption, air travel and public transport use for a whole year. It analysed their emissions of the seven greenhouse gas sources covered by the Kyoto Protocol.

Carbon Neutral calculated acQuire’s two Perth offices emitted 370.42 tonnes of greenhouse gases in a year. In response, acQuire has purchased enough Biodiverse Reforestation Carbon Offsets and Tasmanian REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation) carbon credit units to offset its emissions.

acQuire’s Biodiverse Reforestation Carbon Offsets will contribute to thousands of native trees and shrubs being planted in central Western Australia. The trees planted are legally protected for 100 years. Tasmanian REDD carbon credit units are a carbon market mechanism created by the United Nations to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.

Steve Mundell, acQuire’s Director of Product and Stakeholders, said the accreditation was the first step in a larger environmental awareness initiative acQuire would roll out across its other six locations around the world.

Our long-term goal is to build a sustainable business. We believe if we make sound, values-based business decisions, revenue and profit will follow. Working with Carbon Neutral to offset our greenhouse gas emissions and do something positive for the environment is an obvious extension of that’, Mundell said.

acQuire employees identified environmental sustainability as something important to them. Our association with Carbon Neutral is part of an employee-led initiative and one the entire company can be involved in.

‘We hope that by leading by example we will motivate our employees, stakeholders and clients to offset or reduce their emissions in whatever ways they can.

As well as helping acQuire offset our emissions, the Carbon Neutral team also identified ways we can reduce our emissions and, where we can, we will be rolling out those initiatives across the business’, he said.

Mundell said Carbon Neutral was a wonderful local organisation and he was pleased acQuire was able to support a WA initiative while gaining its carbon neutral accreditation. acQuire offices in other parts of the world will support similar initiatives in their own regions.
