Over 120 geoscience and environmental experts from around the world converged in Perth, Western Australia for the acQuire Connect Tech Summit on 15 – 16 November. acQuire Connect was created for acQuire’s customer and partner community to enjoy a richer way to learn, engage and reconnect. And connect they did. Attendees shared ideas and listened to over 30 speakers, over two days, deliver insights across geoscience software solutions and related industry topics.
This year’s theme, Beyond 2022: Smarter data for smarter decisions, was explored through real-life examples and customer success stories, lively panel discussion and debate and a look into the latest updates across acQuire’s software products, both GIM Suite and EnviroSys. Attendees had plenty of opportunity to network and provide feedback to acQuire’s product leaders, plus delve into how acQuire’s continually evolving technology is paving the way for geoscience professionals to benefit from smarter and better ways of working with their data.
Here are some key highlights:
Data was undoubtedly the most talked about topic during acQuire Connect.
Asmita Manhata, from BHP, set the scene early with her keynote talk on day 1, Geosensing, Data and Resource Definition, and encouraged everyone to get excited about data. She highlighted the multitude of data sources generating data across the resource definition data pipeline and indicated a way you could put a price on your data based on mineral exploration drilling expenditure within Australia. This gave credible weight to her statement that “Data is the new gold”.
Throughout her talk she explained the key ingredients for fit-for-purpose data for resources definition, highlighting the role data quantity and data quality play as the foundation of decision quality. Both quantity and quality are important when mining companies are faced with numerous challenges such as:
Asmita finished by highlighting future state possibilities for the mining industry with real time data and real time modelling enabling the testing of multiple scenarios for flexible and robust decision making.
While geoscientific information management software has acQuire’s focus for over 25 years, acQuire Connect was an opportunity for attendees to discover more about acQuire’s expanding product suite across environmental data and social performance management. Technical breakout sessions for GIM Suite and EnviroSys, gave conference-goers a look into future technology roadmaps. Each breakout session also showcased latest feature highlights and software capabilities and how these can be optimised by users.
Connectivity across third-party software is a key initiative of acQuire and attendees gained insights into newly developed interoperability with SPECTOR Geo by KORE Geosystems which aims to help geologists and mining professionals extract more value from their data and use it to support decision-making.
ALS also showcased how they integrate with EnviroSys and other platforms for companies managing environmental data and samples, all while ensuring Chain of Custody and data quality is maintained.
acQuire’s newest product, Insite, software for social performance management was introduced as part of the acQuire Connect program. Maritha Erasmus, Social Intelligence Leader, explored how data governance is a key component of company’s social licence to operate. Insite was recently added to acQuire’s product suite and is a complementary edition to acQuire with products now across environmental, social and governance.
acQuire Connect provided a richer way for attendees to engage, network and share knowledge. The program featured a variety of session types including industry best-practice examples, software-specific breakout sessions, thought-leader Q&As, lightning talks, and panel discussions. It gave attendees the opportunity to suggest ideas and explore crucial industry challenges more deeply. Together, greater opportunities are created to make smarter decisions when working with the earth’s precious resources.
With over 30 talks over two days the geoscience community gained big picture insights into how others across mining and other industries are working with their data, optimising their software solutions and the impact it creates.
acQuire Connect was a must-attend event for geoscience and environmental professionals working closely with acQuire’s software for geological data management and/or environmental data management. acQuire thanks all the guest speakers and attendees for contributing their energy and participation over two big days.
