The social license to operate continues to be among the top 5 business risks for the mining industry. Investors and communities alike are moving beyond only expecting evidence of good practices in social performance, towards expecting evidence of good social outcomes with workers and communities around mining operations. And while expectations keep rising, the industry continues to be unable to effectively answer basic questions such as: “do we have a social license?”, “is it getting better or worse?”, “why are things changing?”.
